Sometimes, the most special… most romantic weddings aren’t the excessively elaborate ones, or the absolute most expensive ones, or even the extra-large ones. Sometimes, the most romantic weddings are the ones that happen quietly in someone’s backyard, attended by a handful of extremely loved and cherished family and friends underneath an oak tree. These are the kinds of weddings that are the most memorable to me—just like this south Texas backyard wedding.

Although there wasn’t much room for Brittany and I to move around in this bathroom, which also served as her getting ready room, AND we only had a few minutes to capture these as we went in one final time right before the ceremony, I am so in love with these portraits we took of her. I love the look Brittany is giving herself just moments before becoming Mrs.

It was super important to Brittany for TJ not to see her approach the ceremony site. We had him turn his back until Brittany had made her way safely to the aisle.

Brittany and TJ tried to incorporate how they met as well as much of their lifestyle into their wedding day as possible. They initially met in high school on the wildlife team, but it took another number of years for their friendship to shift into a full-fledged romance.

Their first date was a hunting date. They went bird hunting… turkeys, to be exact, and that’s why Brittany’s bouquet is filled with pheasant feathers, deer antlers, and burlap flowers. The hues of browns and tans are meant to mimic what you’d see in a nature setting . That’s also why her flower girl adorned the aisle with quail feathers for the bride’s procession. Also important: they wed on March 16th — it was opening day for turkeys in the Rio Grande – South Zone.

It’s evident in the way these two look at each other that they have a very deep, very strong affection and love for each other. Heck, any couple who can work cattle together and still like each other when it’s done, has something very special and worth holding on to.

I started Ata-Girl Photography Co., LLC in 2010. I enjoy documenting the important milestones and captivating moments in people’s lives. I love being a part of people’s journeys and consider myself privileged to document their legacies.

When I’m not photographing a wedding, family or high school senior, I love to spend my spare time hiking, camping, cycling, reading, listening to Elvis and Prince. The most important things in life are for me to see my two daughters happy and to create a family history my grandparents and grandson would be proud of!
