Ericka and Steve’s downtown San Antonio wedding at the San Fernando Cathedral was the first wedding I’ve ever had to Uber to. Literally. My team and I accidentally missed the party bus when we rushed back to our “supply closet” to grab the gear we needed to photograph the ceremony. We were told that it would be making round trips until everyone was picked up, but after a few minutes of waiting, I got nervous and we opted for Plan B.
Fred, Brentley and I summoned an Uber (who showed up with heavenly bottles of complimentary water in July), and whisked us away to the San Fernando Cathedral.
We arrived in plenty of time before the ceremony started. We were told the party bus never made it back to the Marriott Rivercenter because they thought they got everyone on the first trip. We made the right decision.
The ceremony was beautiful. This cathedral is amazing. Steve and Ericka incorporated the Mexican wedding traditions of Las Arras and El Lazo into their ceremony in the centuries old cathedral in downtown San Antonio—actually the oldest in all of Texas. They also made a special offering to the Virgin of Guadalupe.
After the ceremony, Steve and Ericka enjoyed a nice, private carriage ride back to the Marriott Rivercenter to their cocktail hour and reception. This was actually a surprise that Steve had planned for Ericka. We were careful to keep its details out of the timeline so she’d be completely caught off guard… and she was.
The newlyweds shared two first dances (well, because Ericka had two dresses, duh!)… and I love that one of them was Elvis’ I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.

About Ata-Girl
I am a San Antonio-based wedding photographer and I cater to outdoor-loving couples who prefer to have all the realness captured on their wedding days. I am the wedding photographer for the outdoor adventurers, the romantics, the laid back, the snugglers, and those who wish to capture all their realness.
I am absolutely in love with capturing the kinds of weddings where there are more hugs than handshakes, the dance floor rumbles all night long, and chairs are pretty much rendered useless after dinner. Whiskey bottles are passed around, most of the wedding party has been best-best friends since kindergarten, Grams is likely to lose her shoes and your partner is much more emotional than you are. These kinds of weddings are my jam!
You can always call or text, but if you really want to get to know me, schedule a meetup!

When I’m not behind my camera, you can find me hiking, cycling, backpacking, camping, enjoying water sports, listening to music (Elvis and Prince), hunting for arrowheads, reading audiobooks, occasionally eating a few glazed donuts (my only weakness to sweets) and then re-starting my keto diet about every 10 days. The most important things in life are for me to see my two daughters happy and to create a family history my grandparents and grandson would be proud of.
