The idea of this “Pay it Forward” wedding all stemmed from one bride having to cancel her special day. Normally, this would be a very sad day. However, she was able to turn it into something very positive. She asked Bartenders4You to donate her deposit to a special couple in need. Bartenders4You ran a contest to pick a deserving couple.

Gardens at Old Town Wedding: Miriam & Neto’s Wedding
“In a world full of hate and full of selfishness, this bride inspired me to do the same and it snowballed from there! Pay it Forward was born! Some amazing wedding professionals saw our post and decided they too wanted to help! We all came together to put together an amazing wedding day!,” Jennifer Smith, Bartenders4You.
In fact, so much interest was generated that not one but two weddings were created by wedding professionals who either donating their time and services, or extended huge discounts, to make this special day possible for two separate, deserving couples: Stephanie and Efrain, and Miriam and Neto.
I actually became involved with wedding #2 the night before the nuptials were recited. Shelly Beck, the main photographer, became very ill with walking pneumonia. Despite Shelly becoming increasingly ill by the hour, she was still going to attempt to shoot the wedding. Tina Humphrey, with Diamonds & Dreams, contacted me and asked if I was available to help. At first, the plan for me was to be on stand-by. Then, the plan became for me to second shoot. Within a few hours, Shelly realized it would be nearly impossible for her to cover the entire wedding, so understandably, she very reluctantly handed the reigns over to me. However, she still braved all of the pre-ceremony and family formals the next day in the hot sun. I still don’t know how she managed this. It took her a few weeks to fully recover. She is really a tough trooper.
Miriam and Neto were a lot of fun and so was their wedding party. I am sad that I didn’t get more time to get to know them better. They seemed like a very fun couple. Their reception was the very first time I have ever been invited onto the dance floor by a wedding guest. And, purple was their wedding color. No doubt, they had to be a great couple!!

Although I was subbed in late in the 4th quarter, I am proud that I got to be involved with so many generous San Antonio wedding professionals who, without much thought, extended a helping hand. I agree with Jennifer. In a time when we are surrounded with so much negativity, it is really refreshing to witness and be a part of people coming together to do good. When you are choosing your wedding day creatives, remember the ones who give back to our communities… like the ones listed above. Enjoy.
Here are some of my favorite images from Miriam and Neto’s special wedding day at The Gardens of Old Town Helotes.
