My favorite kind of wedding venues are the kind that can provide overnight accommodations to any number of guests. My absolute favorite kind of wedding venue is one that also offers a wedcation package. And when that further includes 125 of my brides’ closest family and friends, please give me the details. You have my undivided attention!!
Let’s start with: what is a wedcation? A wedcation is a newish term in the wedding industry that involves renting a venue or other property for a multi-day stay in which all (or most of) your wedding activities take place… your arrival, your rehearsal, your guys’ morning-of activities, your getting ready, the ceremony, the reception, and the morning after… without ever having to leave. And now, more and more of these wedding venues are also offering accommodations to more and more of your guests ensuring that fewer have to hunt for hotel rooms, fewer have to rely on transportation services, fewer have to designate drivers to safely get home and MORE can be intimately involved with the prepping and tearing down of your wedding day.
I had the distinct pleasure of getting to meet Charis Canyon and all its beauty late last year when my great friend/great coordinator, Amanda, from Bluebonnet Events, invited me on a road trip I’ll never be able to forget.

Charis Canyon is situated on 220 acres of Heaven on Earth deep in the hill country of Texas and 43 miles northwest of Uvalde. By definition, anyone from the San Antonio area, or any other area more than 120 miles away or more than a two-hour drive away from Charis Canyon, could automatically tout this as a “destination wedding.”
It sits right beside a spring-fed creek that feeds into very small lake near Barksdale, Texas. The lake is suitable for swimming, snorkeling, catch-and-release fishing, and pedal-boating (<read, groom and groomsmen activities!).
There is also a tennis court, a half-court basketball court, a sand volleyball court, hiking trails, and skeet shooting (<read, even MORE activities for the guys!)!!
Charis Canyon provides their wedcation clients a full 72 hours to fully enjoy their matrimonial celebration without the need to hurry up and get it over and then wonder what the heck just happened! They truly believe in “taking your Texas time to do it,” and if you’re mathematically challenged, 72 hours is THREE FULL DAYS. You can begin wedding check-in at 2:00 pm on a Thursday and don’t have to get out until 2:00 pm on Sunday.
The best part is, your investment in this wedcation venue is not much more than other venues’ 10- to 14- HOUR packages with no overnight accommodations for you and your guests, much less 125 of them!
Okay, I did mention you can slumber with 125 family and friends—a few times now. Each of the cabin rooms is decorated so darn cute! Charis took care to have experienced interior decorators lend a helping hand when it came time to furnish this place. They say the place is “rustic” in their literature, but that wouldn’t be the first adjective that I would have selected after seeing the place. It is in the hill country, but this place is classy, comfy, totally inviting, relaxing and yes, SUPER elegant!
After staying in separate cabins prior to, the wedded couple gets to move to their very own private cabin the night of their wedding. The “Manana” cabin is the perfect place to wake up to as Mr. and Mrs., overlooking the spring-fed creek and lake, the morning after saying, “I do.”
When you rent Charis Canyon, you are guaranteed exclusive use of the entire facility and don’t have to worry about uninvited guests showing up to your ceremony because they are at the wrong wedding. In fact, you are guaranteed exclusive use of the facility for the entire three days! And, you will have access to an on-site facility manager to help with problems as they relate to the property.
You also get enough tables and chairs to accommodate those 125 guests.
All linen and towels are provided for the overnight needs. However, there is no room service. With exception of the groomsmen room, each room has at least one queen-sized bed and its own private bath. Some cabin rooms are also equipped with bunk beds for the littles. The groomsmen room features a community-styled shower room. Each cabin room also has a kitchenette with a microwave, coffee maker, dormitory-sized refrigerator and ice-trays. A few of the cabins even have full-sized kitchens and some are also ADA-accessible.
P.S. They also have what makes an excellent makeshift helipad. (Fits two helicopters simultaneously.)
