Last week, I wrote about how orange people scare me.  I didn’t mean that there are really orange people who scare me.   What I meant is that there are photo labs out there that don’t really care about your images.  They are not a professional photo lab.  They receive your order online and they are printed on an uncalibrated machine by someone who just got promoted from the shoe department last week.  These labs don’t adhere to industry standards and in all honesty, they make your images look horrible.

Think of it this way!  You create your favorite cake recipe!  You’ve spent years perfecting it.  It has all your favorite ingredients and suits your taste buds to a tee.  You give your cake recipe to a “cake designer” because they can cook it in an hour.  You go to pick up your cake to discover that they’ve completely ignored your recipe.  They have omitted all the sugar and substituted the flour with bark from a Mesquite tree!  They baked it at 982°C… YES CELSIUS!  Your cake is unsweet, hard as a brick and tastes horrible.  And to top it all off, the cake designer didn’t even bake your cake—it was the shoe salesman!

I’m here to ask you to please STOP printing at these types of photo labs.  Yes, I did it once too.  It was convenient.  I could upload my order, take a shower and then drive two minutes to pick up my order at the same place I was buying groceries for dinner.  It was easy!  It was fast!  However, the images rarely turned out the way I created them.  Every order got progressively darker and then I stopped using them.  I started using only professional photo labs.

Professional Photo Labs

Most professional photo labs will only print for professional photographers.  However, mpix is a professional-level lab that will print for amateurs.  They offer great services at an affordable price and you can best bet the shoe salesman won’t be printing your photos!

Let’s compare!  A 4×6 from the place with the shoe salesman will cost you 19 cents for an hour service. The full-service pharmacy will charge you 20 cents.  (Who knows who does the printing there?) mpix offers their 4x6s starting at 29 cents a piece AND IT’S A PROFESSIONAL PRINT!!  They also offer E-Lustre paper and color correcting as add-on services!  They offer fun products like photo books, calendars and player cards too.

Folks, this is a NO BRAINER!  If you love your family and you love your images, treat them like it!  Don’t let the shoe salesman process your images!  Open an MPix account today!
