I was super excited when Kody asked me to be part of his surprise wedding proposal!! I was even happier when Whitney said yes and I also got to photograph their actual engagement!

Kody and Whitney first met in August of 2014. They were both in college at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Kody was seeking a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Whitney a Bachelor’s of Nursing. Somehow, Kody convinced Whitney to meet him at the beach. She agreed and they spent every day after that together. After they both graduated, the two left Corpus and moved to League City near Houston.

The planning for this Kemah Boardwalk engagement session started weeks prior! With the help of his and Whitney’s moms, he was able to flawlessly plan the perfect surprise wedding proposal and have it all photographed. He delivered three unexpected surprises to Whitney on January 23: (1) the proposal and engagement ring, (2) a dinner with both of their families, and (3) chocolates, flowers, wine, candles and bridal magazines waiting for Whitney upon their return home.

Whitney thought they were attending a company party this night. She confesses that she should have been suspicious, but never had a clue. Kody kept asking her what she was wearing, suggested she get dressed early enough to paint her nails, downed a beer even though they were on an organic diet, and was blaring music. Somehow, Kody was cool enough that she didn’t pick up on the tell-tale signs that something was different this night. Whitney says she was taken aback that Kody took a knee to propose—she was expecting him, much less romantically, to one day turn to look at her and say, “You wanna get married, or no?”
