Although this teen studio session was shot last August… and although I don’t often shoot in my downtown studio… I am so in love with this session! I may be slightly biased because Brentley is my drop-dead, gorgeous niece, but come on, this session was incredible! Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a sucker for a different kind of prom gown, and the minute I saw images of Brentley’s prom gown last year, I knew we’d be having a session together! (For the record, we will be shooting her prom gown from this year as well!!)
I think what makes me love this prom gown so much is the contrast between the bodice and the skirt. The bodice is classic black, barely beaded and the neckline is an off-the-shoulder v-neck. While the skirt is a very classic A-line cut, the printed fabric features a wildly modern large printed rose pattern. Long gone are the days when formal ball gowns were monochromatic or of only one color. And pockets!! Many formal gowns now have pockets!
Brentley completed her own look doing her own hair and makeup. While I don’t usually advocate this because I think everyone deserves a good professional pampering prior to a professional photoshoot, Brentley’s makeup and hair looked amazing! Surely it didn’t hurt that she has a flawless palette to start with!

A girl can never have enough portraits (or clothes), so Brentley also wanted a few shots in a second outfit. I obliged.
