When Mahala’s mom first contacted me to inquire about senior portraits, she was desperate to schedule the session as soon as possible. Generally, I ask that all sessions be made at least seven days out to allow adequate time for session, clothing and accessory consultations, location decisions and the possible scheduling of any professional hair and makeup artists. Mom told me that Mahala would generously be donating her hair to St. Jude’s through a charity event, Sky High for St. Jude’s, within that time frame.  Waiting wasn’t possible so I agreed to rush through a few of Ata-Girl’s formalities and we scheduled a Gruene senior portrait session.

I would have never guessed just by looking at this beautiful young lady that she was a competitive shooter, nor that she drove a big ol’ truck with a lift. Mahala is the perfect mix of beauty AND brawn. This gorgeous gal is a senior from Tilden High School and is in the top ten of her class. She participates in tennis, FFA and 4-H Shooting Sports. After graduation, Mahala plans to attend Texas A&M in Corpus Christi and become a lower elementary school teacher.

Mahala requested her first of three senior portrait sessions to be in historic Gruene—which is beyond lovely and has so many nooks and crannies to shoot in. Mahala and her mom even showed up a few hours early to walk around and scout out a few backdrops to use during the shoot. They did well. We completed most of the shoot on the grounds of the Gruene Mansion Inn and I must say, the images turned out beautifully. The bed and breakfast does a really good job of keeping their grounds well-groomed and enjoyable to look at.

Have you ever heard someone tell the father of a beautiful young girl, “Dad, you’re going to need a shotgun to keep the boys away!”? Well, not in this case. Mahala has her own and I feel she’ll do just fine. 🙂 By the way, I’m told that Mahala’s ponytail was auctioned for $15,000. What a great and selfless deed!
