Our grandfathers knew each other and were friends. Our fathers know each other and are friends. Lanny and I are also friends and have known each other since we rode bus #8—the Christine route. These were during that days that gas was somewhere around 87¢ a gallon. Our parents didn’t dare drive 10 miles back into town for a gallon of milk. They sent us (without a license and barely able to see over the steering wheel) into Christine. We’d either go to Mancho’s or Glen Patterson’s to get what we needed. So, when Mandy, Lanny’s wife, contacted me regarding a family session, I thought it would be fitting for the session to be somewhere in Christine. (I love my Christine Crickets!)
I settled on Mancho’s. Lanny confessed he’d often buy Pixie Stix from Mancho. Although Mancho has passed on and his store no longer serves the citizens of Christine, it is still standing… and it is a beautiful part of our history. It’s painted white with a bright turquoise trim and has the most elegant vine covering part of the porch—BONUS!
Mandy was apprehensive about picking clothes for everyone to wear. She emailed 117 pictures (sarcasm!) of outfits to me to make sure her family would look their best. She did a wonderful job mixing colors, patterns, textures, and accessories and her family looked superb! Their images pop with color and contrast!! The only glitch in the day was that I could not tell her twins (Alli and Lexi) apart… as HARD as I tried. I finally had to resort to just calling them Grey Skirt and White Skirt. (I’m a loser.) Lanny and Eric could barely hide their enthusiasm, and Lindy was the most well-behaved four-year-old I’ve ever photographed. What an honor it was to photograph this family. The entire Wheeler clan looked fantastic and here are some of their images to prove it!
Last thought: What is the plural of Pixie Stix?
P.S. The butterflies in the images are real.
