In my younger days, I nursed a somewhat feral cat through delivery (bribing her with raw bacon). I was once allowed to watch my grandfather pull a calf from its momma with a tractor. Growing up with a dad who raised chickens (both domestic and exotic), turkeys, quail, pheasants, ducks, and pigeons—mostly all for fun, I witnessed many birds hatching. But, I had never really witnessed the miracle of a human birth. Even though I have two children of my own, I didn’t really witness their births. Both were C-Sections (one emergency) and the curtain they hang at your chest prevents you from being witness to anything.
You can imagine how excited I was when my sister-in-law invited me to document the birth of her baby! I had already photographed her engagement and her wedding. I jumped on the opportunity because there was nothing of this sort in my portfolio. I wanted to preserve every single second of the day and every minute detail. I wanted this to be a record of events for both my brother and sister-in-law. But most importantly, I wanted this to be proof that Baby Ashlynn wasn’t adopted when all the older cousins start to tease that she is!
I have to admit that I absolutely nailed it! I captured everything: paperwork, staff, surgery room preparation, anxiety, excitement, restfulness, baby’s first breath (which brought me to tears!), and the look on the parents’ face when they saw their newborn baby for the VERY first time… every prick, prod and poke. I succeeded in cementing this moment in time in the minds of everyone who was there.
I started Ata-Girl Photography Co. in 2010 and I am one of the premier San Antonio wedding photographers who is available for local and destination weddings. In addition to wedding photography, I also specialize in high school seniors and family portraits in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. I am a professional photographer who enjoys documenting the important milestones and captivating moments in people’s lives. I firmly believe that the unique set of circumstances I have faced in life has prepared me to take a personal and genuine interest in my photography clients. When I’m not photographing a wedding, family or high school senior, I enjoy watching my daughter play softball, hiking, cycling and listening to Elvis!
