I didn’t know Sandra before we met on November 15th, although we had exchanged a few emails. I met this beautiful, strong woman after she agreed to participate in a project to help promote breast cancer awareness.
After early detection of a lump during her annual mammogram—a standard procedure that probably saved her life—Sandra received some shocking news. In March, she was told she had breast cancer. She was treated with chemotherapy and this process made her very tired and sometimes depressed. However, she fought through it all, and with the help of her family, she forged along to complete her treatment. Marty, her husband of 23 years, and their three children, Kassy, Klarissa and Ryan, rallied around Sandra to keep her on track and focused on her recovery. Sandra’s mother, Vivian, and her four brothers and sister were also very influential in keeping Sandra in the fight. Even the family’s two dogs, Sadie, and Oreo, joined in! Surrounded by the love of her family, Sandra had no choice but to beat this awful disease!
When I met Sandra, she was just wrapping up her makeover session with Claudia Reyes from the Friends & Family Hair Salon in Pleasanton. Sandra was absolutely stunning, but admitted to feeling conscious about her shorter hair and her eyelash extensions. She said she had always had longer hair and was still getting used to this shorter length. Conscious or not, Sandra was simply gorgeous and I could instantly tell this woman was not only beautiful on the outside, but had inner beauty as well. She was also a woman of faith. I picked up on this early, so we finished the shoot at the place she worships, St. Andrews Catholic Church.
Here are some images from Sandra’s portrait shoot. I wish this lady the best of luck in her continued fight!
