Compliments of my sister, I had the opportunity for a brief getaway a few weeks ago. (Are they called shortcations?) We took her two kids and one of mine and headed to the Woodlands. Specifically, we headed to The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. This relaxing place is secretly tucked away in the middle of a busy, business-thriving area only 30 minutes from downtown Houston. The place reminded me of Disneyland, but on a much smaller scale and without Cinderella or Snow White. Who would have imagined that this luxurious resort existed behind the soothing blankets of towering trees?
Not only is the venue pleasantly suited for family vacations and corporate meetings, this resort is also perfect for weddings! The all-inclusive property has everything you need for your wedding weekend getaway. The day before the wedding, the kids can play in the Forest Oasis Waterscape or watch a dive in movie. The weekend we were there, they also had live music, free snow cones, karaoke and a magician. Golfers can play the irons on one of two championship golf courses. Everyone else can relax while being pampered at The Woodlands Spa. There’s also a bike/jogging trail surrounding the property and it’s lined with small lakes, dazzling pools and elegant fountains.
The 60,000 square foot indoor entertainment center has multiple choices for your ceremony. You can choose glass-enclosed ballrooms or stately boardrooms. If an outdoor location suits you, choose from lakeside terraces, forest decks or rolling fairways to recite your vows. The Woodlands Resort also has a staff of experienced professionals to help plan your day. They will help coordinate everything from the rehearsal dinner to the wedding ceremony and reception. Every wedding celebration is planned right down to the smallest detail.
If you want a destination venue inside the Texas state line, this is the place for you! You’re just minutes away from world-class shopping AND you get a Texas-sized chocolate chip cookie every day of your stay. It’s a no-brainer.
Sidebar: Twice on Saturday afternoon I saw a bride posing for her bridal pictures. I badly wanted to raise my own camera and take a pull back of the photographers capturing images of their brides, but both times resisted the urge not wanting to be intrusive.[AFG_gallery id=’57’]

When I’m not photographing a wedding, family or high school senior, I enjoy watching my daughter play softball, hiking, cycling and listening to Elvis!
